A WOMAN has revealed that she is 20-years-old but is often mistaken for a 10-year-old as a result of her voice.
Ebony May, a 20-year-old woman with a cake business, explained that people never take her seriously and she’s often refused service in bars, even if she wants to buy lemonades.
Posting on social media, the young woman revealed the awkward situations she has found herself in as a result of her youthful looks.
Not only this, but she also revealed that people have even accused her of faking her voice too.
In one clip shared online, Ebony responded to a comment that read: “You should try not to sound like a 12-year-old child.”
Ebony then clapped back and explained: “Ok, I’m going to address this once and never again.
“Yes, this is my actual voice. I’m aware that I sound a lot younger than I actually am.
“Some people literally think I’m putting a voice on for TikTok. They’re like ‘why are you speaking like a five-year-old?’.
“I cannot help it. I cannot change my voice.
“I didn’t realise that my voice was that different, until I had a teacher that said ‘why do you sound like that?’. I was really confused.
“Since I started this account, I get heaps of comments all the time, saying ‘why do you sound like that?’.
“Also on video I feel like I sound even more like a child.
“I’ve always been told that I look younger and sound younger, so I’m used to it.”
In another video, Ebony revealed all of the “out of pocket” things people have said to her as a result of her youthful appearance and voice.
She shared: “I’m going to tell you some things people have said to me as someone who looks younger than they actually are.
“First of all, when I worked in retail, someone literally said to me, ‘oh my god, you’re so cute, I just want to take you home’. I was 15 at the time.
“Also I was out the other night in a club, I was dancing away with my brother, and this lady kept staring at me.
“And then she comes over and she goes ‘are you old enough to be here?!’.
“Next, I was in Year 8 at school and we had a new girl start. People in my class convinced the new girl I was actually from Year 5 but I was really smart so I was allowed to be in their class. And she believed it for a whole year.”
Not only this, but Ebony also revealed an awkward bar scenario, a time when she worked in a fabric shop, and how people always assume she sells her mum’s cakes, when in fact she has her own cake business.
She added: “Next, I was at a bar getting my friends a lemonade because they were underage. I was buying three lemonades. The barworker literally came around the bar and put his hand on my shoulder and said ‘I’m so sorry but you’re going to have to get your mum to come back and get it for you’.”
“I also used to work at a fabric shop and I was serving someone and she was explaining that she was making a dress for her eight-year-old. She hadn’t looked up the measurements and she goes ‘she’d probably be the same size as you’. I was 16 by the way. So she literally came around the counter and started measuring me.
“I also own a cake business and sometimes I would be at the market, this has happened to me multiple times. And a mum or older customer would come up to me and say ‘Aww did your mum make these? You’re doing such a great job selling them’.”
She later confirmed: “My ID is my biggest flex.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @ebonymaybakess, has clearly left many totally stunned, as it has quickly amassed 220,200 views.
But social media users were eager to support Ebony and make took to the comments to share their messages of loved and support.
One person said: “Oh they are proper haters. You are amazing and do not listen to them.”
Another added: “People are always so rude to you, you’re so sweet don’t even give them the time of the day.”
A third commented: “You don’t have to explain yourself. You are one of the most genuine people on this app. We love you regardless.”
However, not everyone was as kind and many commented about Ebony’s youthful appearance.
One user claimed: “You look like you’re 13.”
Whilst someone else wrote: “You look 10.”
