A BARGAIN supermarket is set to shut one of its stores for good in just days.
Iceland is bringing the shutters down on its store in the Rosemary Centre, Mansfield this weekend.
The store is the last remaining unit in the “iconic” shopping centre and will close at 4pm on Saturday, January 13.
According to local news website Nottingham Live, the 70-year-old shopping centre is set to be demolished to make way for a Lidl.
Developers told the news outlet the shopping arcade had “reached the end of its natural life”.
A spokesperson for Iceland said: “Our Iceland store in Mansfield is closing on Saturday because of the imminent expiry of our lease due to the planned redevelopment of The Rosemary Centre.
“Customers will be able to continue shopping the full Iceland range in-store and online at our The Food Warehouse store on St Peter’s Retail Park nearby.”
Locals are disappointed to see the shopping centre go and have taken to social media to share their thoughts.
One person said: “When I left school it was a big factory I used to work there when I left school in 1974 why put it down it’s lovely building.”
Another added: “I love that building love the shape.”
While a third person commented: “Instead of tearing the building down, why can’t they just renovate the inside.”
The Sun has reached out to Lidl for comment on the potential new store and we will update here when we have more information.
Iceland has around 500 branches and 153 Food Warehouse stores in the UK.
From February to September last year the retailer closed down 17 locations.
However it is not all bad news as the frozen food specialist does typically open more than 20 new stores a year.

The retailer has also been helping savvy shoppers to fill up their baskets for less in 2024.
Just last week it launched a £1 frozen foods range and shoppers went wild for it.
The range has plenty to choose from including a variety of pie flavours, chicken nuggets, breaded fishcakes, fish fingers, and curries.
There is also vegan and vegetarian options too.
It also recently slashed the price of a popular laundry detergent that worked out just 5p a wash.
Iceland is not the only retailer to pull the shutters down on some of its locations.
