THE Chase viewers were left slamming a contestant for “making excuses” after they got an “easy” question wrong.
Tuesday evening’s episode of the ITV quiz show saw Terry, Verity, Liam and Barbara join forces to take on one of the country’s finest brains.
Liam was ridiculed by fans of The Chase for not knowing who Billie Jean King was[/caption] Billie Jean King was once the best tennis player in the world[/caption]And one of them soon stole the show – but for all the wrong reasons.
Taking on Mark Labbett, Liam took through an impressive £6,000 from his cash builder and opted to stick with just that.
But soon into his head-to-head with The Beast, he came across a question that viewers dubbed as one of the “easiest” ever.
Heading into the showdown, host Bradley Walsh first asked: “Whose words, ‘Pressure is a Privilege’, feature on a plaque at the US Open’s main tennis court?”

Faced with three options – John F. Kennedy, Mark Twain and Billie Jean King – Liam opted for the late President of the United States.
Bewildered by his choice, Bradley revealed Billie Jean King to be the correct answer, before affirming: “One of the greatest female tennis players of all time.
“You didn’t know that?” asked Bradley, before Liam responded: “No, I didn’t know that, no.”
Those watching at home, however, were left ridiculing him for not knowing who the famous 12-time Grand Slam winner was.
Taking to Twitter, one person penned: “How has he never heard of Billie Jean King? His excuse was, ‘I am only 35’. My goodness me.”
Echoing their comments, someone else said: “Oh come on… I’m younger than him and even I know who Billie Jean King is.”
While a third remarked: “The clue is in the question. What an idiot!”
One of the greatest female players ever, Billie Jean King won 12 singles Grand Slams, becoming the dominant force in the game in the late 60s and early 70s.
She won a record 20 career titles at Wimbledon – six singles, 10 women’s doubles, and four mixed doubles and also took part in the Federation Cup, representing the USA.
The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV.
