When the man didn’t come up from the water after his snorkeling trip, an FWC officer was called for help as he happened to be in the area checking two boats.
FWC Division of Law Enforcement spokesman Rob Klepper told the newspaper: “Due to the FWC vessel in proximity at the time and location the accident may have occurred, the FWC has requested that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conduct an independent investigation of the incident to ensure complete transparency.”
After a few hours of investigations, with the help of the US Coast Guard, authorities found the man’s body, which appeared to have “head trauma from a possible vessel strike,” an FWC official said.

Two other snorkelers died this week as well, a 53-year-old Englewood man and a 51-year-old man from Tampa.
On Tuesday, an investigation into the Englewood man’s death was being conducted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Kale Dailey was snorkeling in Sawyer Channel, part of the Lower Keys, on Tuesday with his friends when he suddenly wasn’t feeling well.
After telling his friends about his condition, he reportedly started feeling worse and was assisted back to the boat.
Dailey was transported to Blimp Road on Cudjoe Key by the FWC where he died, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The 53-year-old is survived by his wife Teresa, two children, Jeffrey and Kaitlyn, and his two grandchildren, the Englewood SUN reports.
Bill Truex, the owner of Truex Preferred Construction in Englewood, where Dailey worked, remembers the dad of two for his “heart as big as gold.”
Truex told the news outlet: “We are all a team. Kale was always happy no matter what was going on.
“He had a heart as big as gold. He just loved life, he loved people, his family, grandkids and helping our community.”
Lastly, a Tampa man passed away after losing consciousness in the water on Wednesday.
The 51-year-old man, who has yet to be identified, was in the water just north of Key West, near Bluefish Channel, when he became unresponsive.
He was declared dead soon after at Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island, as per the Miami Herald.
