A WOMAN has revealed how she was catfished by a would-be Romeo from the past.
With millions of tempting profiles, online dating is quite similar to gambling – you never know what you’re getting yourself into…and one Londoner had quite an unlucky experience.
With the internet becoming a more central part of our daily lives than ever before, the mysterious online webs have also become the place where many would-be couples meet.
It is exactly here where the 22-year-old aspiring singer Alayah found the bloke of her dreams, a man by the name of Tommy, who was struck by her vocal talent.
But after half a year of nonstop chatting and having fallen for him, the two had never met up – despite living relatively close to each other.
Trying to figure out what’s going on, the young woman approached the MTV show, Catfish UK, which sees hosts, Oobah Butler and Nella Rose, help people find out whether they’ve been catfished.

”He is an ambitions, handsome young man and he is in the music industry.
”Sometimes when I feel shy when I sing, he’s there, like, you know, boosting me and telling me I’ve got this.
”I’ve never felt this way – ever – about any other guy.”
Despite thinking Tommy might be ”the one”, the amount of times he’d cancelled on meeting Alayah last minute had made her quite suspicious.
And her suspicions grew even more after a friend of hers, Afro Prince, had made a sly joke saying: ”Oh, heard that you and Tommy are going to the studio together.”
But to make matters even stranger, the hopeful romantic revealed she had never told Afro Prince about her mysterious Romeo.

Seeing how keen the 22-year-old was to finally learn who she had been speaking to all this while, Oobah and Nella set off to work.
But having no social media presence made the task more challenging.
Not being presented with a lot of material to dig through, the duo tracked down Afro Prince who was adamant he had heard about Tommy’s existence beforehand.
Another solution to try and put the pieces together was contacting the talent agency Tommy allegedly worked for – but to no avail, as one of the employees claimed there was no staff member with that name.
This is when the two came up with the idea of checking out the modelling portfolio website Alayah had provided them with – and very soon came to learn the images belonged to someone named Deiondre, a 21-year-old university student and a model.
After learning that Tommy was, in fact, a catfish and had been using a fake persona all this time, Alayah was heartbroken.
However, things came to a shocking head when the team arranged to meet up with ”Tommy” in Croydon, where he lived.
The lovestruck woman looked like she had seen a ghost from the past as the a bloke opened the house doors and revealed himself – and he clearly wasn’t the same Tommy from the photos.
Alayah exclaimed ”God’s sake” when she finally saw who she’d been exchanging lubby-dubby messages with – Donny, a young man she had gone out on a few dates with a while back.
”We used to speak,” said Alayah, ”But it was never like that. It was like friendly.”
She explained that at the time she wasn’t ready for anything serious, so had gone on a social media break.
Trying to figure out what had happened, Donny had created a fake account using images of Deiondre – his cousin, who wasn’t aware his snaps had been taken without his permission.
”I thought what can I use to see if you would go for someone else instead of me.
”And obviously I know my cousin’s good-looking.”
However, as shocking as the sudden discovery was, Alayah realised that the person she had fallen in love with was standing right in front of her.
The two hopeful romantics even went on a date the very same evening – and although it had more a friends’ vibe, the aspiring singer had put the incident behind.
