WOLVES boosted their top-six hopes as Jonny’s volley and Ashley Young’s own goal deservedly sunk Villa.
Steven Gerrard’s men awoke too late – with Ollie Watkins bagging a penalty – but were outplayed for the first hour.
Jonny poached Wolves’ opener on seven minutes.
Daniel Podence and Fabio Silva had shots blocked after Villa gave the ball away just inside the Wolves half, with Jonny lashing home the loose ball.
Then early Villa substitute Young watched in horror as his flying header of an own goal doubled the home side’s lead on 36 minutes.
But four minutes from time Watkins set up a frenetic finale with a spot-kick after he himself was brought down by Jose Sa.
Villa poured forward – with belated urgency – but Wolves clung on.
Victory pushed Bruno Lages’ men up to seventh, with Villa ninth.
