A CONTESTANT on The Chase was left red-faced after a dig at ‘smug’ Jenny Ryan majorly backfired.
Monday’s episode of the ITV quiz show saw Claire become the first contestant up to face the Chaser, and managed a respectable £6,000 in her Cash Builder.
Before she headed to the table, host Bradley Walsh asked her which of the show’s brain boxes she would like to take on.
Claire said she would like to try her luck against Jenny, telling Bradley: “I think she’s very good, but I think sometimes she’s a little bit smug.
“So I’d quite like to try and give her a run for her money.”
Bradley looked at the camera and raised his eyebrows in surprise at her comment before revealing Claire would be getting her wish as it was Jenny who was the Chaser for the episode.
As Claire burst out laughing he said: “There you go… it’s the queen of smug, it’s The Vixen herself, Jenny Ryan.”
Jenny wasted no time in referencing the comment, telling the pair: “I’m putting on my smuggest expression, now. Hello, Classroom Claire…”
The Chaser then made her offers, but when Claire decided to stick with the middle offer of £6,000 she couldn’t help but comment.
She said: “Disappointing. You know what you needed to do to really wipe the smugness off my face, it was go for the big offer.”
While Claire made it back to her seat and managed to avoid being caught by Jenny during her round, the same could not be said for the Final Chase.
Despite three of the four team members making it through to the final round, Jenny was on top form and was able to catch them before the time ran out.
It meant Bradley had to take the £18,000 they had accrued and send them home empty-handed.
Earlier in the episode, viewers were left in disbelief after “gorgeous” Claire revealed her job.
The blonde bombshell disclosed her role as a full-time teacher, with the host and viewers at home in disbelief.
Taking to Twitter, one fan said that the 37-year-old was “too fit” to be a teacher, while others thought she looked much younger than she was.
Alongside an emoji of a heart, one person penned: “Claire has the upper hand because she’s a teacher – and a gorgeous one at that.”
Echoing their comments, someone else gushed: “Imagine if Claire was your teacher at school. Would you get any work done? Probably not.”
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
