FLOWERS can really brighten up your home, especially in the winter.
And a bunch sent as a gift can be a lovely way to cheer up someone else’s day.
Buying blooms can burn a big whole in your wallet, especially if you replace them regularly[/caption]But buying blooms can burn a big whole in your wallet, especially if you replace them regularly.
Here’s how to enjoy cut flowers for less.
BLOOMS IN YOUR SHOPPING BASKET: Bag a bargain on fresh stems by buying at the supermarket. Asda currently has Oriental Lilies on sale for just £5, and spray carnations for just £2.50. Tesco has a dozen red roses for £5.
STALK THEM OUT: Search the web for cheap blooms. At homebargainsflowers.co.uk, get carnations for £10.00, 50 roses for £16.99, and a hand-tied “Birthday Surprise” bouquet with chrysanthemums, carnations and roses for £14.99.
THANKS A BUNCH: Topcashback has some great deals with different flower delivery companies, so it’s worth checking back and alternating between firms to take advantage of discounts.
Current deals include up to 26.64 per cent of your purchase with Teleflorist Flowers, 16.5 per cent with eflorist, and 15 per cent back with Bloom & Wild.
CLIMATE CONTROL: A good way to get your cut fresh flowers to last for longer is by keeping them away from sunlight, and by using a water spray bottle to keep them moist during the day. Equally, choose something longer-lasting, such as an orchid which blooms for months. You can pick up a 12cm orchid in a pot from B&Q, £7.
FAKING IT: Save cash on fresh flowers by plumping for fake ones instead. You can get a 30cm artificial daisy and iris multi bouquet from Dunelm for £6.
Dried blooms are also cost-effective. Eucalyptus, which is expensive to buy fresh, looks pretty much the same when preserved. Switch up the vases so you can appreciate the same bunch again and again.
Prices correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
