RUMORS that Priyanka Chopra was divorcing Nick Jonas circulated in November after she removed her husband’s last name from her Instagram.
Chopra is an actress, model, and singer who has starred in more than 50 movies and won the People’s Choice Award in 2017 for Favorite Dramatic TV Actress for Quantico.
The change on Instagram came on a Monday in November. Priyanka Chopra, 39, made the decision to change her Instagram handle from @PriyankaChopraJonas to @PriyankaChopra, dropping her husband, Nick Jonas’ last name from her account.
The internet went wild with rumors that the couple’s marriage was in trouble and they were getting divorced.
The negative speculations ended within 24 hours when Chopra posted a loving photo of her with Jonas.
In an interview with ETimes, Chopra said she didn’t know why she decided to change her Instagram handle.
She added, “I wanted the username to match my Twitter, I guess. I just find it really amusing that everything becomes such a huge deal to people. It’s social media, guys. Just chill out.”

“It’s a very vulnerable feeling, actually, that if I post a picture, everything that’s behind me in that picture is going to be zoomed in on, and people are going to speculate,” Priyanka said in an interview with Vanity Fair.
This isn’t the first time Chopra’s life has been put under a microscope. When she married Nick Jonas, 29, who is 10 years her junior, people on social media accused her of using him to get ahead in her career.
However, Chopra is arguably more famous than her husband having starred in more than 50 films, been on the cover of Vogue India a total of 11 times, and won India’s version of the Oscar for the 2008 drama Fashion.
She also received the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice in 2016 and in 2019 UNICEF awarded her the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic work.
But for all the critique she still gets, she said, “It’s just a professional hazard.
“Because of the noise of social media, because of the prevalence that it has in our lives, I think it seems a lot larger than it is. I think that we give it a lot more credence in real life, and I don’t think it needs that.”
Chopra and Jonas met in 2016 when he sent her a message on social media and they officially met at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in 2017.
The pair started casually seeing each other but didn’t officially announce their relationship until May 2018.
Jonas proposed to Chopra two months later on her birthday and they were married in December 2018. They had two weddings taking place in India and stateside.
“Once I’d said yes, we stayed up until 8:30 in the morning FaceTiming our families and friends. Then the wedding planning essentially began,” Chopra wrote in her book titled Memoir.
