JADE Thirlwall has revealed her career almost took a very different path when she was asked to audition for a huge reality show before The X Factor.
The singer, 28, appeared on make-up artist Nikkie de Jager’s YouTube channel and was asked where in the UK she hails from.
After telling Nikkie she was born in Newcastle, Jade says: “Do you watch Geordie Shore? It’s not the full representation of Geordie land, but it’s certainly an insight. I got asked to audition for Geordie Shore before I got put in Little Mix.”
When Nikkie asks if Jade has any regrets about choosing music over partying for a living, she quietly says “no” before they both laugh.
Jade then adds: “I’m happy that I made it as a pop star. That was my calling.”
South Shields-born Jade is a very proud Geordie and, as well as opening bar Arbeia and nightclub Industry in her hometown, last year she also became an honorary president of South Shields Football Club.
At the time she said: “I’m so grateful to be asked to be the Honorary President of South Shields Football Club.
“I’m incredibly proud to come from South Shields and one thing I am most proud of about my hometown is the sense of community and how we love to support each other and see each other do well in all aspects of life, which is something the football club very much embodies.
“I hope through my role I can raise awareness and increase the club’s profile, encouraging others to do the same and support our incredible team.”
Jade recently opened up about her early life, confessing that a combination of bullying, the loss of her grandfather and body issues saw her health spiral out of control.
“I was bullied, my grandad died and I got an eating disorder,” she writes in new book The Female Lead: We Rise By Listing Others.
But, confessing that performing saved her, Jade added: “I was shy and timid but I found that I could express myself on stage, singing and dancing. I always felt loved and protected growing up, especially by my Grandad.”
