10 Ismaila Sarr (£2.6m)
Over half of the Senegal international’s points came last weekend courtesy of a brace against Norwich at Carrow Road.
He won’t play the Canaries every week but his underlying numbers hint at the potential for sustainable returns – he also scored against Aston Villa in Game Week 1.
Sarr has 29 points and an ownership of just 1.1% – he plays Newcastle and Leeds in his next two games, two of the league’s more vulnerable defences.
9 Allan Saint-Maximin (£3.5m)
Long story short, he’s a pure entertainer who is also proving to be mightily effective at the start of this season.
Saint-Maximin’s tally of 32 points is only two shy of that boasted by Cristiano Ronaldo (£7.8m) and yet the Frenchman’s ownership still sits at a modest 2%.
8 Andreas Christensen (£4.1m)
The Dane’s ownership of 2.2% can probably be explained by the fact Dream Team bosses are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to Chelsea defenders.
Christensen’s total of 32 points makes him the joint-eleventh best player in his position overall and yet four of his team-mates have greater tallies at the time of writing.
7 Mohammed Salisu (£1.6m)
We just published a separate article about the merits of Southampton’s dirt-cheap centre-back.
He’s one of only two defenders in the top 15 who doesn’t play for either Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester City.
1% of gaffers are backing Salisu to continue mixing it with the likes of Reece James (5.0m) and the aforementioned Christensen – all three players have 32 points currently.
6 Jay Rodriguez (£1.3m)
The 32-year-old scored all four of his side’s goals as Burnley beat Rochdale 4-1 in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday night.
As a result, the Clarets striker was catapulted up the rankings having bagged 33 points in one fell swoop – he’s suddenly the seventh-best forward in Dream Team this season!
Still, it’s unlikely his ownership of 0.1% will increase much since most Dream Team managers know they shouldn’t overreact to cup games against lower league opposition.
5 Shane Duffy (£3.0m)
Brighton’s statuesque centre-back is other defender alongside Salisu infiltrating the top 15 defenders.
A constant threat from set-pieces, Duffy has scored in the league already this term and pocketed two Star Man awards en route to 34 points.
His ownership has increased from 0% to 2% and will surely keep rising as long as he’s starting for the high-flying Seagulls – pun very much intended.
4 Thiago Silva (£3.7m)
Absent for the first two Game Weeks, the experienced Brazilian has made up for lost time at a rate of knots.
A headed goal against Tottenham helped him on his way to an 18-point haul on Sunday, which moved him onto 34 in total.
Thomas Tuchel evidently still has great faith in the 37-year-old’s ability to keep the wolves from the door in the Premier League.
3 Kostas Tsimikas (£3.0m)
Andy Robertson’s (£3.9m) understudy has done a fine job when called upon this season.
The Greece international was arguably the smartest option going when he was starting for a Liverpool defence back to something like their best under Virgil van Dijk’s (£5.3m) leadership.
Tsimikas has 35 points after a thoroughly successful Game Week 5 and will get his fair share of minutes going forward.
However, Scotland’s captain remains very much the first-choice left-back, which explains Tsimikas’ ownership of 1.9%.
2 Marcus Forss (£2.2m)
A lot of Dream Team gaffers will have met that name with a response of: who?
The Finnish 22-year-old is Brentford’s back-up striker and while he’s only be given a total of four minutes in the Premier League so far, he’s enjoyed himself immensely in the Carabao Cup.
Forss followed up his goal against Forest Green in the second round with a four-goal rout against Oldham as the Bees progressed to the last 16 by virtue of a 7-0 cakewalk.
Incredibly, those two performances alone account for his massive points total of 41 which makes him the fourth-best forward overall, ahead of Ronaldo!
As you would expect for a player who only gets minutes in the domestic cups, his ownership is 0%.
1 Andros Townsend (£3.4m)
Last but not least, it’s Dream Team’s No1 midfielder right now.
Very much a surprise package, the 30-year-old winger has been reinvented since his transfer to Everton, scoring three goals and providing three assists in his first seven games for the club.
Townsend has not been rested in the Carabao Cup, picking 23 of his 45 points against Huddersfield and QPR.
Just 4.3% of Dream Team gaffers benefited from his goal/assist combination at Loftus Road on Tuesday night.
Surely he will enjoy a further spike in popularity now he’s the outright best midfielder in the game?
