EMMERDALE’s Michelle Hardwick has been inundated with messages of support after revealing the homophobic abuse she has received online.
The actor – who plays Vanessa Woodfield in the ITV soap – shared the horrific homophobic messages from the troll and dared them to reveal their identity.
Taking to Twitter, Michelle revealed the horrendous comments that had been posted on her Instagram account calling her a “d**e” and a “l**bo brat”.
The soap star, who is openly gay, defiantly wrote alongside a screenshot of the troll’s comments: “Come on, show us who you really are… I dare you!”
Michelle is married to Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks and the couple welcomed their first child together in October 2020 – a baby boy named Edward.
Kate had the best response to the troll and replied to Michelle’s tweet saying: “Hi ‘Michael’, the original Prisoner Cell Block H called from 1985 – they’d really like their insults back. Thanks a mill.”
Michelle later posted on Twitter thanking fans for their messages of support after she revealed the vile abuse.
“Overwhelmed by all your beautiful supportive messages,” she posted against a rainbow-coloured background.
“I honestly don’t take it to heart, I just like to highlight it every so often.
“Thank you to every single person who took the time to message me whether I know you personally or not. I promise I’ll read them all.”
Vanessa is currently absent from Emmerdale village, but actress Michelle recently teased her return to the soap.
Responding to her co-star Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy Kirk, the actress joked that she was already worrying about trying to learn her lines.
Dominic’s tweet featured a meme showing a man trying to nail down the tide to the beach.
He said: “True representation of me trying to make Emmerdale scripts stick in my head after time off.”
Michelle, who clearly relates, said: “I’m already having anxiety dreams.”
