WENDY Williams is well versed in sparking outrage from fans with her scathing insults and put-downs, the most recent being her blasts of actress Tabitha Brown’s marriage.
Here are some of the chat show queen’s most legendary shade, offending everyone from Joaquin Phoenix, FKA Twigs and Britney Spears, to even having an opinion on Valentine’s Day.
The actress and influencer took to social media to shut down comments made by the daytime talk show host about her husband Chance Brown.
After Tabitha revealed that after 15 years as a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, he had decided to retire, Wendy had some choice words.
Likening Brown’s life to her’s with ex-husband Kevin Hunter, she told the audience, “I was married to one of those, ‘I make the money!’ and so on and so forth. ‘Go live your dreams! Open a business! Go, go, go!’ See how that turned out…I predict that this marriage is going to be on real rocky ground in a moment. ‘Live your dream’… They may invest in stuff and lose the money.
“They invest in something else then the money gets swindled or stolen. Then they invest again and he comes home and throws his bag down. She’s like ‘What? What?’ And he’s like, ‘I can’t do this and this is your fault. You’re over here making your money and stuff and had me quit my job.’”
Brown took to Instagram to gracefully clap back to Wendy’s comments in an IGTV video.
Brown shared in the video, “Wendy, the pain you must be in to feel this way, honey, I’m so sorry. But listen, let me tell you this. Twenty-three years I’ve been with my husband, broke for a very long time together. Struggled for a very long time together. Succeeded for the last couple of years together.”
In 2020, just before Valentine’s Day, Williams made a string of offensive comments against gay men while presenting her show.
During a segment about Galentine’s Day, the 56-year-old said: “If you’re a man and you’re clapping, you’re not even a part of this.
“You don’t understand the rules of the day. It’s women going out and getting saucy and then going back home. You’re not a part. You don’t get a mensie every 28 days.”
Not finished with the remarks, Wendy then went on to tell gay men to stop “wearing our skirts and our heels,” before adding that they will “never be the women that we are. No matter how gay.”
The comments did not go down well and quickly sparked backlash online, with one user writing, “This is not cute. It’s homophobic. Do better.”
Wendy then issued a video statement apologizing for the comments.
She said tearfully: “I’ll start by saying, I apologize. I did not mean to offend my LGBTQ+ community on yesterday’s show.
“I never do the show in a place of malice. I understand my platform with the community.
“I didn’t mean to hurt anybody’s feelings. I’m just having a conversation. I’m not out of touch, except for perhaps yesterday, by saying what I said. So I deeply apologize, and I deeply appreciate the support that I get from the community. I will do better.”
On February 15th 2020, sex therapist Amie Harwick was found murdered in her Hollywood Hills home.
Discussing the death, Wendy referenced Harwick’s former fiancé, comedian Drew Carey, telling the audience that she “was tragically murdered over the weekend,” but that it was not by Carey.
The chat show host then said the famous catchphrase from the game show The Price is Right, “Come on down.”
Despite widespread outrage, including from Hawick’s own brother who demanded a public apology, the 56-year-old did not say sorry.
The controversial TV host couldn’t hide her distain when she slammed Olivia’s and Harry Styles’ relationship.
Calling her the “worst mother,” she then accused of her breaking up her family to move in with a “young boy.”
uring Hot Topics, touched on Olivia’s directorial relationship with Harry: “I guess she directed him- over here in the bed son.”
She went on: “Harry Styles – he’s real handsome, right? For a moment though – you don’t throw away your kids and your fiancé, maybe you cheat.
“If you’re going to leave your fiancé who you have two children by, why would you not move into a hotel or something or get an apartment or something? Like why would you move in with a young boy? And when your children grow up, and I know that they’re only like four and six now…”
Wendy added: “Olivia, you’re going to look like the worst mother that’s ever done it, like when they see that footage, You left dad for Harry?'”
In January 2020, Wendy was forced to apologize to the “cleft community” after mocking Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix’s cleft palate on the show.
One vocal critic was Canadian football player Adam Bighill, whose son was also born with a cleft lip.
In addition to apologizing, Wendy show donated to two charities in honour of Bighill’s son Beau.
Back in January this year, Wendy was blasted by viewers for “defending” Shia LaBeouf and calling him “charming” after his ex FKA twigs accused him of abuse.
During a segment of The Wendy Williams Show that focused on LaBeouf, his new girlfriend, Margaret Qualley – who is the daughter of actress Andie MacDowell – and Twigs’ bombshell suit.
Twigs, real name is Tahliah Barnett, claimed the actor inflicted a string of abuse on her including “knowingly giving her an STD,” in court documents.
Discussing the case, Wendy told the audience that “he likes his people, which is all part of his bad boy charm.”
“If he likes you, he likes you. So I figure, if we could have gotten him here, he would like us,” she added.
“Because if you think we’re weird on TV, you have no idea how comfortable we could really make you in your own skin around here.”
She went on: “This poor man though, 34 years old, he’s a grown man though. when he was in his twenties, it was something else.
“You know, Andie, you have that nice woman image, that holier-than-thou kind of sort of thing – even though there are stories, well, side stories that apparently got crushed so I will keep them right down there where they are.
“Right now, what’s she’s doing, this Andie Jr [Qualley], she’s putting a stain on her own reputation.”
Afterwards, one person tweeted: “Please stop talking about Shia LaBouf..stop with the publicity..he’s crazy and an abuser…Stop giving him publicity.”
Wendy shocked her fans by shouting “death” to Jamie and Lynne Spears on live TV.
She shared her intense reaction to how Britney’s parents have treated her amid her conservatorship legal battle.
While reflecting on the conservatorship battle during the Hot Topics segment of The Wendy Williams Show, the host said: “How dare you, Mr. Spears. You had me fooled.”
Wendy added: “And you too, Mrs. Spears.
“Death to all of them!”
Hell hath no fury like a Britney Spears fan scorned, as Wendy found out earlier this year.
Viewers slammed the star for insisting Britney needs to be “controlled” after watching the documentary Framing Britney Spears.
She said: “I think that her father is a good man… I’ve heard that she still needs to be controlled, and she needs to have someone that’s controlling her finances, and controlling who she is friends with and where she goes and what time she’s coming in, and don’t drive a car.
“And if you do make sure that security is with you then they can take the wheel in case you can’t and you’re not such a good driver. I feel bad for her. It made me very very sad…. I want to see Britney get well and then she’s still young enough and beautiful enough to come back on the scene and captivate all of us again. She’s that girl.
Wendy double downed on opinion by adding on the next show: “I still do believe in my opinion that Britney does need someone to guide over her finances and be a custodian and a guardian in her life. She doesn’t have that type of person already. Normally, if you were married that would be your husband, or if you were underage that would be your parents…”
