A ‘MAJOR’ fire has broken out at a school with pupils evacuated as residents reported hearing an “explosion.”
Fire crews are tackling the major blaze at Northfield Academy in Aberdeen this afternoon, with multiple emergency services at the scene.

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing across Aberdeen just before 2pm as police officers also rushed to the scene.
Five fire appliances have been called out to the school.
It has been described as a “major” fire by local residents.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service say four pumps and a height vehicle have been sent out to Northfield Academy.
Building work is currently taking place at the school, with scaffolding visible around the site.
And it is understood no pupils were in the area where the workers are, according to the Evening Express.
But Aberdeen City Council said today: “Due to a fire at Northfield Academy, the school has been evacuated.
“Arrangements are being made for pupils to go home.”
Local politician Guy Ingerson was nearby when the fire erupted, and posted a video of the smoke pouring out from the building on his Twitter account.
He wrote: “Just heard an explosion near or at Northfield Academy. Really worried about the people there.”
Mr Ingerson, who lives a street away, said he heard an “almighty bang.”
He added: “We went outside and just saw a massive column of smoke.
“When we heard the bang we could feel it too, it almost felt like the house shook a little.
“It’s quite dramatic.”
It is not currently known whether anyone has been hurt.
