THEY thought it was purely platonic, but these celebrity couples realised their friendship had turned into something much more.
From BFFs to happily ever after, we take a look at the love stories of these stars.
FIRST MET: They were castmates in 1998 for That ’70s Show, when Mila was just 14 and Ashton 19.
BFFs: In 2001, Mila revealed that she had a huge crush on “Kutch”. Ashton married Demi Moore in 2005, although Mila remained a big part of his life.
LOVE: Ashton and Demi split in 2011 and he reconnected with Mila at the Golden Globes the following year. They married in 2015 and have two children – six-year-old Wyatt Isabelle and four-year-old Dimitri Portwood.
SHE SAID: “It was the weirdest thing that I was checking this guy out and it was someone that I had known forever.”
FIRST MET: Cherry is Ed’s childhood friend, having met at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk, in the early Noughties.
BFFs: Ed is believed to have had a crush on Cherry as youngsters, but they went their separate ways after school. He pursued a career in music, (and we all know how that turned out), while she went to uni in America.
LOVE: In 2015, they began dating and Cherry moved back to the UK the following year. They got married just before Christmas 2018 and had their first child together last September, daughter Lyra Antarctica.
HE SAID: “I’ve known Cherry for a while but we rekindled our friendship and then started dating. We are very happy and in love and our cats are chuffed as well.”
FIRST MET: At the Sylvia Young Theatre School when they were 13.
BFFs: They had an on/off relationship throughout school, apparently splitting for good aged 16, but staying good friends.
LOVE: After a year apart, they realised they were still head-over-heels for each other. They tied the knot in 2012 and now have children, Buzz, six, Buddy, four, and Max, two.
SHE SAID: “There was something about him, something that kept drawing us in. I had a boyfriend for the 14 months we weren’t together but Tom was always there. We never left each other alone, really.”
FIRST MET: In 2010 when Stacey was crowned the winner of I’m A Celebrity! and Joe was hosting the spin-off show.
BFFs: They immediately hit it off and Joe later admitted that he fancied Stacey from the start.
LOVE: They first sparked romance rumours in January 2016 and went public that spring. They had baby Rex together in May 2019 and got engaged over Christmas. Aww!
SHE SAID: “He’s my best friend. I could tell him anything. I just feel
like if we’ve got each other, then everything is going to be OK.”
FIRST MET: On the 2019 series of Love Island.
BFFs: Maura always insisted they weren’t together, just “super-close” since the show. She split from fellow Islander Curtis Pritchard in March last year, while Chris broke up with Harley Brash soon after leaving the villa.
LOVE: The pair began to drop relationship clues last summer and set tongues wagging when Chris claimed he needed to find a “Minnie” days after Maura said she was looking for a “Mickey”.
While enjoying a holiday in Dubai in November, they finally revealed they were an item, with Maura telling fans: “He’s mine”.
HE SAID: “Turns out I fell in love with my best mate.”
FIRST MET: Backstage at the Today show In 2009. Hailey was 12 and Justin 14.
BFFs: The pair didn’t hit it off at first – she said the two-year age gap was “weird” but admitted he was cute.
LOVE: The relationship rumours never went away and it was all confirmed when they got matching tattoos and went on holiday to Anguilla together in December 2015. The pair tied the knot in New York in 2018.
SHE SAID: “I met him when I was really young and he was one of my best friends.”
FIRST MET: At a church camp when they were younger. They remained pen pals for a while before losing touch.
BFFs: They met again in 2011 at a Mumford & Sons’ party in the US, when Carey showed up with rumoured boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal.
LOVE: The two were married the following year and now have two kids, Evelyn, five, and Wilfred, three. The cuties still write love letters to one another even now!
SHE SAID: “Love letters are becoming a lost art form. To have a love letter from someone, to hold it in your hand and know that you can keep it for your whole life, that’s an amazing thing. I’m a hopeless romantic.”
