KATE Garraway told Good Morning Britain viewers she will read husband Derek his anniversary card in hospital today.
The journalist was unable to see her seriously ill husband on their 15th wedding anniversary yesterday, but she did raise a drink to him at home with her family.
Kate Garraway will take husband Derek his anniversary card in hospital today[/caption]Speaking this morning, she said: “We did our best to make it special. We had him on Facetime. My mum and dad are on childcare duties overnight while I’m here and they were there as well and we raised a glass and said happy anniversary.
“I have a card to take to read to him. It made me go through all the cards he’s written to me. He was a prolific card writer for birthdays and things. He’d always remember… And hopefully he’ll do it again.
“It will be strange reading to him, but this time I have made a bit more of an effort.”
Kate admitted yesterday that not being with Derek for the occasion was “tough”.
The 53-year-old shared her disappointment on GMB, before considering that it might have been “strange” anyway.
Yesterday Kate revealed that it was her and Derek’s 15th wedding anniversary [/caption]Speaking to Susanna Reid and Adil Ray, she said: “It’s actually Derek and I’s wedding anniversary today, unbelievably – 15 years today.
“What an extraordinary thing. I won’t be able to see him today, I kind of hoped I would but it wouldn’t work out that way for a visit… But maybe it would be a bit strange anyway.
“So yeah, it’s a tough day but he’s still here. There’s not a huge amount of change.”
Addressing Susanna, Kate continued: “I haven’t seen you for ages, Adil I haven’t seen you for a couple of weeks either… So much happens in those couple of weeks, there’s so many seeming positives, but actually when I see people again it’s just the same.

Derek was rushed to intensive care with coronavirus back in March, and he was put into a coma shortly afterwards – and he remains in limited consciousness.
He is still unable to speak, with doctors warning he may stay in his current condition – but there are signs that he can hear so nurses play Good Morning Britain for him when his wife is on.

The couple are mum and dad to 14-year-old Darcey and 11-year-old Billy.
Emotional Kate explained at the time: “It was obviously a challenging one under the circumstances.

“We had a cake which we ate over FaceTime. It was very challenging for the kids, but they are doing it brilliantly.
“We managed to do it with Derek’s family and technically hook up and sing happy birthday. We just hope the love seeps through.”
At the weekend, the TV favourite confessed that she was finding the constant sadness and heartbreak “wearing”.
