Part of being a fantasy football manager is making really big, season-defining decisions.
For example: which super striker do you want to pick for your Dream Team ahead of the new season?
Anyone who knows anything about Dream Team will know that they’ll probably need to pick one of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah or Sergio Aguero for their team – as these four are arguably the best goal-scorers in the top-flight.
But can Aubameyang fire Arsenal back into top four contention? Will Kane start the season strongly? Can Aguero avoid injury? And what does all of this mean for your team?
Everyone wants a piece of Aubameyang at the moment – and with good reason.
The glorious Gabonese Gunner is one of the world’s most dangerous goal threats, famed for his pace, finishing, and off-ball movement.
He finished last term with 22 goals, just one away from top-scorer Jamie Vardy’s final total, while in terms of fantasy football he was part of our Dream Team ‘best XI of the season’ with a total of 230 points.
The 31-year-old ended 2019/20 in a flurry, netting six goals in Arsenal’s final four games – including a brace in the FA Cup final.
He’s started this season brightly too, scoring in the Community Shield curtain-raiser at Wembley as the Gunners saw off Liverpool.
Picky Dream Team gaffers should know though that the striker scores the majority of his goals against the supposedly smaller sides – with around 70% of his goals coming against the bottom half of the league last season.
Last season was a bit of a downer for the usually-mighty Kane, whose injury-plagued campaign saw him finish just short of the league’s top scorers.
Spurs, too, suffered and failed to make the Premier League’s top four for the first time since 2015.
Kane’s Dream Team haul was still fairly impressive though, rounding off with 220 points – making him the 10th best player on the game.
By now, we all know that the England striker suffers with injury and fitness issues, while he is particularly infamous for his slow starts to the season.
Should you pick him right away, or hold off for a few weeks? The jury’s still out.
However, having had three months ‘off’ during the Premier League’s lockdown earlier in the year, Kane has had the longest break of his career and that will hopefully allowed him to start this campaign reasonably refreshed.
Since moving to Man City in 2011, Aguero has been the league’s most consistent goal scorer and an excellent source of big Dream Team Game Weeks.
But a run of fairly serious injury problems, stiff competition from the likes of Kane and Salah, and team tinkering from Pep Guardiola has meant he’s only been the division’s top scorer on a single occasion, in the 2014/15 season.
But Aguero is still an incredible striker and one of the finest additions you can make to your Dream Team – even ahead of the 2020/21 season, which Aguero will be coming into off the back of another nasty knock.
Despite the good form of Gabriel Jesus and the potential signing of Lionel Messi, Aguero is still a huge part of City’s attacking threat and big name for your fantasy football team.
Just be prepared to switch him for somebody else the moment he suffers the inevitable injury lay-off.
With 251 points on Dream Team last term, Salah finished up as the best striker of 2019/20.
Nearly averaging a goal ever other game, Salah also racked up points by regularly providing for his teammates – registering 10 assists in the Prem along with his 19 goals.
He probably won’t repeat the dizzy heights of his debut campaign, when he had the best first year of a Liverpool player on record by scoring 32 goals, but the Egyptian is still by-far one of the most consistent points scorers on the game – just don’t expect fireworks from him every week.
