A FATHER died over the weekend after being stuck by a bolt of lighting while riding a jet ski with his son in California.
Eugene Arao, 47, a US Army veteran and long-time postal worker was with his family at Stampeded Reservoir when his son watched him get fatally hit by lighting last Saturday.
According to the Mirror, his son, who remains unidentified, was also injuried.
Both were thrown off the jet ski and into the water when the lighting struck.
Arao was reportedly thrown under a boat ramp and was declared missing before being later found approximately 20 yards from shore.
The son was able to get to shore and was taken to the hospital for treatment for his injuries, the Mirror reported.
Two others were also allegedly hit by the lightning strike and were released at the scene.
According to an eye-witness on scene, Arao’s son suffered severe burns and was unconscious and required CPR before being taken to the hospital.
The witness added her boat was damaged by the lighting and it knocked the wind out of her daughter.
“What a horrific tragedy,” she said. “Remember tomorrow is not promised.”
The National Association of Letter Carriers confirmed Arao’s death on Monday saying he celebrated his 22nd year with the USPS the week prior.
“We worked at the Reno Post Office and was a veteran of the United States Army,” they added. “He leaves behind his wife of 27 years and three son.”
