WITH the scandal over Prince Andrew’s links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quitting royal duties, the Windsors have been pretty embattled of late.
Now a new Channel 4 documentary is to revisit another crisis from 25 years ago — Princess Diana’s bombshell interview with Panorama about her marriage to Prince Charles.
The four-part show is due to be screened this autumn and looks at several problems that have beset the family.
The impact of the famous talk with Martin Bashir will be explored in detail.
A TV insider said: “The documentary intends to look at the years leading up to the controversial interview, and the aftermath of discussing her relationship to the heir to the throne.
“It’s obviously timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Panorama programme, not to mention airing just as Netflix drama, The Crown, also delves behind the scenes of Charles and Di’s marriage.
“The show will make for particularly uncomfortable viewing for the royals and couldn’t have come at a more difficult time for them.”
Diana gave her interview on November 20, 1995, and referred to the affair that Charles had with Camilla Parker Bowles, who is now the Duchess of Cornwall after marrying Prince Charles in 2005.
The princess revealed to Martin that they had struggled because “there were three of us in this marriage — so it was a bit crowded”.
Diana also revealed on TV that although she would never be Queen if she divorced Charles, she hoped she would be “a queen in people’s hearts”.
Just nine months later they did divorce and she lost her HRH status before being killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
Their troubled marriage, which began with a spectacular royal wedding in 1981, is also explored in the fourth season of Netflix’s The Crown, in which Josh O’Connor plays Charles and Emma Corrin takes on the role of Diana.

In The Long Run is set in Eighties Hackney, London, and starts on July 22. It is loosely based on Idris’s childhood.
