FANCY a spring salad in the middle of winter? Or a shepherd’s pie when it’s hot outside? Shopping in supermarkets means you (thankfully) don’t have to stick to set meals just because certain ingredients are in season.
But despite having access to some of the world’s top chefs (who we imagine can whip up anything she likes at a moment’s notice), The Queen reportedly only eats meals that are seasonally appropriate.
The Queen only eats seasonal foods and would never have a genetically modified piece of fruit, a former royal chef has claimed[/caption]In an interview with Recipes Plus, former royal chef Darren McGrady revealed that Her Majesty is very hands-on when it comes to the royal menu.
And even though she loves strawberries, Darren says she’ll never eat them out of season or when they’ve been genetically modified.
He said: “You can send strawberries every day to The Queen during summer at Balmoral and she’ll never say a word.
“Try including strawberries on the menu in January and she’ll scrub out the line and say don’t dare send me genetically modified strawberries. She absolutely does eat seasonal.”
Darren McGrady worked for the Royal Family for 15 years[/caption]That said, there is one thing The Queen will eat all-year round – and that’s chocolate.
In fact, Darren – who worked for the Royal Family for 15 years – said that Her Maj is a total “chocoholic”.
In an interview with HELLO!, Darren said: “Anything we put on the menu that had chocolate on, she would pick off the menu.
“She had a red leather-bound menu book and the menus are all written in there. The chefs pick the menus and she puts a line through the ones that she doesn’t want.”
Sadly, Her Majesty doesn’t just indulge herself in a daily Dairy Milk – and instead prefers Charbonnel et Walker Pink Champagne Truffles which will set you back £15 in Harrods.
