PAUL POGBA and Bruno Fernandes flopped together in a midfield three as Tottenham thrashed Manchester United 3-1 in a FIFA 20 simulation SunSport conducted ahead of tonight’s Premier League clash.
Man-of-the-match Harry Winks showed his United counterparts how to play centre-midfield properly as his side made light work of a disappointing Red Devils team.
United head to North London tonight hoping for a better result than the one played out on the popular video game this afternoon.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will move above Chelsea in fourth on goal-difference with a win while Jose Mourinho will be hoping to widen the gap to ninth place Arsenal to four points with victory.
And if Tottenham are to leapfrog Wolves and Sheffield United into sixth, they will need Harry Kane fit and firing just as he was on the simulation.
After a cagey start, Kane rifled Spurs in front on the half-hour mark – reacting quickly to thump home a Giovani Lo Celso free-kick that ricocheted out off the post.
And with Pogba and Fernandes failing to find any rhythm in a midfield three with Scott McTominay, the home side took their 1-0 lead in at the break.
Tonight’s real game will be the first time the pair have lined up together since Pogba’s recovery from an ankle injury and Fernandes’ January arrival at Old Trafford.
In the second half, before United’s front three of Rashford, Dan James and Anthony Martial had a chance to get in the game, Tottenham had struck again – this time through Lucas Moura on 56 minutes.
Spurs’ Champions League hero darted in from the left-hand side, exploded into the penalty box and smashed home past a hapless David De Gea.
But the punishment was not over there for United who saw the game put to bed by Erik Lamela on 74 minutes.
Some neat play on the edge of the box saw him slipped in down the right-hand-side and fire past De Gea with a finish just as emphatic as Moura’s.
An 83rd minute consolation from sub Odion Ighalo thanks to a Pogba assist was not enough for the Red Devils and boss Solskjaer will hope tonight’s game does not mirror events played out on FIFA 20 this afternoon.
Spurs vs Man Utd kicks off tonight at 8:15pm at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
