A GRIEVING widow of a “loving husband” killed walking to the shop in a horror police chase crash says it “stole our future”.
Keen motorcyclist Andrew Kitson, 44, was killed when a suspected banned driver lost control during a police pursuit and catapulted him into a nearby garden.
Today, his heartbroken wife Jess, 36, visited the scene 48 hours after the horror smash with relatives.
They read messages of condolence left among the floral tributes and spoke to the householders who found Andrew fatally injured in their front garden.
Jess laid a wreath, with a photograph of Andrew, and a message which read: “My Darling Andrew, a beautiful soul, the most loving, loyal and wonderful husband.
“Our future has been stolen from us. I’m utterly heartbroken my love. You will always be in my heart, your Jess xxxxx”
Jess wiped away tears in the rain as she hugged family members and stood near the spot where Andrew had lost his life.
A 22-year-old motorist has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Police arrested the suspect at the scene but failed to see the lifeless body of Andrew in the garden until the distressed householder alerted officers to the full horror of the crash.
Andrew had popped out to the local Co-op and was about 400 metres from home when he was struck by the car.
A marked police vehicle spotted a silver Peugeot 307 at 5:18 pm on Tuesday in East Ardsley, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, and signalled for the driver to pull over.
When the motorist failed to do so a police pursuit began and a short time later the Peugeot hit Andrew before it overturned in the middle of the road.
Witnesses estimated the Peugeot to be travelling more than 100 MPH when it struck Andrew.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson stated: “At 5:18 pm police officers in a marked roads policing vehicle signalled for a Peugeot 307 to stop in East Ardsley (near Leeds).
“The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit began.
“A short time later the Peugeot and a male pedestrian on Leeds Road, Outwood were in collision.
“The male pedestrian died as a result at the scene. The driver of the vehicle suffered what are believed to be minor injuries.
“A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.”
Due to the nature of the incident, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
