ALDI is recalling bread sticks over fears they contain pieces of metal.
The product recall applies to the Savour Bakes-branded bread sticks by the Athenian Family Bakery.
According to a statement on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website, they may contain “small pieces of metal”, making the treats unsafe to eat.
Affected products come in packs weighing 125g, with batch codes of 704888 and 49830.
The product recall applies to all best before dates.
They’re only sold in Aldi stores, although the discounter hasn’t yet confirmed how much they cost.
PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.
As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.
But it’s often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.
When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don’t there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.
If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.
They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.
In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.
You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.
We’ve also asked how many products they’re calling, so we’ll update this article once we hear back.
If you’ve bought the bread sticks, you should avoid eating them and instead return the pack to your nearest Aldi store for a full refund.
You don’t need to still have the receipt to get your money back.
Aldi said in a statement: “We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.”
If you’d like more information about the recall, you can contact Aldi by sending an email to customer.service@aldi.co.uk.
Aldi has more than 875 stores across the UK. You can find your nearest one using by its store locator tool.
Other product recalls to look out for include Bisto gravy powder, which is being recalled at Asda over allergy fears.
Magnum ice cream and Calippo lollies have also been urgently recalled from UK supermarkets.
While Morrisons is recalling 10 types of fresh herbs over listeria fears.
