Coronation Street stars are banned from sipping pints at the Rovers Return[/caption]Actors have been told they can only touch props if absolutely essential.
Mr MacLeod said: “If you consider that every time somebody touches something that has been bought in from our buying team, then been placed on set by somebody from our design team — that’s three possible chains of transmission for any virus particles that might be on any of their hands.”
After three months of not being able to film because of Covid-19, Corrie chiefs have also enforced strict social distancing rules to get the show back up and running.
Coloured poles are used to keep stars, including Michael Le Vell (Kevin Webster) and Sally Carman (Abi Franklin), two metres apart.
But football loyalties made picking colours difficult.
ITV Director of productions John Whiston said: “We were going to do blue and red and then people pointed out that there were too many tribal football loyalties around so I think, on Coronation Street it’s green, orange and pink to sort of try and avoid that.”
The soap is also temperature-testing the cast and crew and anyone who has a high result is being sent home and told to call NHS 111.
