PC Tom Van Der Wee, of Sussex Police, tweeted: “If you’re going to meet up with your beloved for a picnic please wait until you get home before having dessert! “Couple located and suitable words of advice given!”
Sharing a snap of some fluffy pink cuffs, he added: “I can confirm there was no use of handcuffs — fluffy or otherwise. #TheLovePolice.”
The pair appeared to be bending government rules announced last week which made it illegal for people to have sex inside their own home with someone from a different household during the coronavirus outbreak.
One Twitter user joked: “People think ‘I’m not allowed at home but can meet in a park’.”
PC Van Der Wee replied: “To be fair I think it had more to do with the bottle of gin they polished off.”
One follower called Lonnie commented: “Well it was said they you weren’t allowed to meet ‘in the home’ so I guess it was either garden (assuming you have one), or nature. I mean at least they kinda followed the advice.”
Another said: “Did you wait for them to finish?”
One person joked: “Isn’t that called al fresco?”
Clare Neal posted: “Exercise and fresh air! Good citizens I’d say.”
