DEAR DEIDRE: I LIKE my girlfriend a lot – she is friendly and warm.
But there’s something not right. I don’t feel the sense of attraction I think I should.

She has a great personality and sense of humour. She’s a good-looking girl and I love being with her but somehow don’t want to get close. I find myself breaking away from a kiss as soon as I can.
I’m 25 and my girlfriend is 24. She’s very keen and wants to see me most nights – but I’ve told her I need time on my own.
I broke up with my previous girlfriend last year as I felt she was into it much more than me and she was sad that I needed time out on my own.
DEIDRE SAYS: Do you really want to be with your girlfriend or indeed any girl at this point in your life?
If you don’t want to get close, it would be better for both of you if you end the relationship and think about what you need to make you happy and about what might be holding you back.
It could be a sexuality issue or emotional damage which makes you wary of intimacy. My e-leaflet on counselling explains how exploring a problem with a counsellor can help. Most work on Skype or FaceTime.
