RUBY WALSH is back at Cheltenham this year – but for the first time he won’t be riding.
Walsh quit the saddle last year and punters will have to be without their ‘Ruby Tuesday’s’ as the top jockey will be watching from the parade ring.
Ruby Walsh was the leading rider for powerful Irish trainer Willie Mullins. For a long time, Walsh was also associated with the Paul Nicholls yard, although that riding relationship ended in 2013.
Ruby Walsh is 40 years old. Walsh won the amateur title twice at a young age in the 1996/97 season and the 1997/98 season before turning professional.
He won the English Grand National on his first attempt, aged 20, on Papillon, a horse trained by his father.
Where do you start? Walsh has ridden far too many classy horses to name them all.
Kauto Star, Hurricane Fly, Big Buck’s, Vautour, Faugheen, Douvan, Annie Power, Commanche Court and Papillon would all be towards the top of the list.
Walsh suffered a suspected broken leg after a horror fall in the second race of Day 2 at Cheltenham 2018.
The jockey was attended to on the racetrack for a while before hobbling off with the help of doctors as they helped him into an ambulance.
He was ruled out of further competition on Ladies Day and leading owner Rich Ricci reported that he suffered a broken leg.
