EASTENDERS’ dying Daniel Cook proved beyond a doubt his love for Jean Slater in hugely emotional scenes – yet fans were left confused as to why the pair were celebrating Valentine’s three days early.
Ade Edmondson’s character is currently being looked after by Stacey Slater’s mum during his battle with cancer – which the BBC One soap actor has confirmed will end in his passing.
Jean is all too aware the moments the pair have left are special and tries to make everything comfortable at home.
Mo Slater demands Daniel realise how lucky he is to have Jean at his beck and call and, when she heads out for coffee, it appears the Slater matriarch’s words sink in.
Presumably with the help of Big Mo, he decks out their Albert Square living room with bright red love hearts, rose petals and romantic streamers all around.
Slushy music is on cue and playing as Jean walks into the lounge, leaving fans hugely touched.
Daniel proudly declares: “This shows you how much I love you.”
While his actions left fans swooning, Jean wasn’t initially convinced.
Perturbed with worry about not making his tea properly, or caring for him in the right way, or judging his temperature correctly, she quizzed him about whether it is actually what he wanted.
Daniel insisted he would drink “dishwater” if Jean had made it for him.
Standing amid his array of decorations, he said: “There’s noone I would rather be with when I die.”
Daniel actor Ade made his debut on the Square in 2019 as a new love interest of Stacey Slater’s mum Jean.
His character went on to have a large role in helping Jean through her ovarian cancer, before staging his own death so she didn’t have to see him dying.
Speaking on Loose Women in January 2020, comedian Ade confirmed his character – who is no longer receiving cancer treatment – was going to die on the BBC One soap.
When asked about how long Daniel would be on the show for, Ade said: “Well he’s got cancer and he’s not having any treatment.”
When Ade was asked whether his storyline would be “resolved” during the time his character had left on the soap, he replied: “I would think so.”
BBC bosses are yet to confirm when Daniel will die, and fans will have to stay tuned to find out the tragic fate.
