A TINY Essex house that’s just six feet wide and ten foot long is on the market for £150,000.
The three-storey Victorian outbuilding is available to buy at a cost of around £490 per square foot.
The Tower, which sits behind a property in Maldon’s High Street, has undergone a major six-month conservation project.
It’s now a stunning bedroom holiday home and despite only being on sale online for two weeks, it’s already had nearly 1,000 views.
Starting on the ground floor, the small space boasts a modern shower room, a toilet and fitted kitchen complete with an oven, washing machine and microwave among other appliances.
On the first floor there’s a living room with storage space and stairs lead up to a bedroom on the top floor.
As The Tower is a commercial property, residents are exempt from paying council tax.
But the outbuilding isn’t available for permanent residency and can instead be rented out as a holiday home or part time living accommodation.
The Tower has been listed as an “investment purchase” and is currently being rented out for £800 a month.
Mark Salisbury, the building’s current owner, has lived in Maldon with his wife and children for 14 years.
He told Essex Live: “I saw the building and I thought it’s so unusual, it’s three storeys tall with such a small footprint.
“I thought what the hell is all that about?
“A few years later the premises at the front came up for sale.”
Mark had a look into the property’s history and discovered it may have been used as a storeroom or smokeroom for storing cheese.
“We’ve been renting out out for around 18 months on six-month tenancies, and someone had it for a year,” said Mark.
“Maldon District Council decided to list it as a Grade II property because of the conservation.”
After investing a lot of time and effort into the restoration of the property, The Tower was nominated for the Maldon Conservation and Design Awards last year and was “highly commended” for its unique design.
Its new tenants would be just a short walk from the Promenade Park which sits along the grassy banks of the River Blackwater, Hythe Quary and the River Chelmer.
There is no parking on site and residents would have to find alternative locations to park their car.
