MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed the club may have to look for a ‘short-term’ deal in the January transfer window.
The announcement comes following the news that Marcus Rashford will be out for up to six weeks with a stress fracture in his back.
A number of other players in the squad are on the sidelines, including central midfielders Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, with Solskjaer conceding they will likely have to look at doing some business this month.
He said: “Anthony has been out, Paul, Scott. It’s an unfortunate situation.
“We might look at some short term deals. Desperate for a striker? Not desperate, if the right one is there and it fits for us… I have players here who are chomping at the bit.”
United have already missed out on one of their main targets for January in Norwegian forward Erling Braut Haaland.
The 19-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in Europe right now having netted 28 times in 22 games for former side RB Salzburg this season.
But the Red Devils failed to secure his signature as Borussia Dortmund finalised a deal, one which already looks like a sublime piece of business given he netted a hat-trick on his debut.
Solskjaer is under pressure to deliver as manager given United missed out on Champions League football last season.
And they are currently five points behind Chelsea in fourth following the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, their seventh of the campaign.
It remains to be seen whether the Norwegian, who built his reputation as a player on late goals, can do any major transfer business late in the window.
