NICK Gordon, the ex-partner of Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, died on New Year’s Eve from a suspected drug overdose.
The 30-year-old was thrust into the spotlight in 2015 after then-girlfriend Bobbie Kristina Brown was found face down in a bathtub after ingesting a lethal cocktail of drugs. Here is everything we know.
Nick Gordon and Bobbi Kristina Brown grew up together, after Bobbi’s mother, Whitney Houston unofficially adopted Gordon.
The then 12-year-old was a close family friend when he was taken on by the star.
The LA Times reports Gordon was raised as a brother to Bobbi, but the pair weren’t legally or genetically related.
It’s reported Brown’s grandmother called her relationship with Nick “incestuous” when she first learned of their romantic involvement, but she later gave the pair her blessing.
Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon became engaged in October 2012.
The announcement of their romantic relationship caused controversy within the family, especially since Bobbi had been made the sole beneficiary of her mother’s $115million (£87m) estate following her death in February of that same year.
In 2014, Brown and Gordon publicly announced their marriage, which they said took place on January 9 of that year.
However, in a statement the following year from her father’s lawyer the marriage was alleged to have never taken place.
The statement said: “Bobbi Kristina is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon”.
Bobbi Kristina Brown died in July 2015 aged just 22.
She was found face-down in a bathtub on January 31, 2015, with an autopsy revealing a toxic cocktail of drugs in her system, including alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs.
The 22-year-old never regained consciousness and died some months later in hospice care.
A multi million-dollar civil suit filed by the conservator of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s estate was then brought against Gordon.
The suit alleged that he had physically abused her, knocked out her teeth, dragged her up stairs, taken money from her without permission, controlled her and “gave Bobbi Kristina a toxic cocktail rendering her unconscious and then put her face down in a tub of cold water causing her to suffer brain damage”.
The suit said that he had “manoeuvred” himself into a boyfriend role and posed as her husband to help himself to large chunks of her inherited fortune.
In 2016 Gordon was found legally responsible for Brown’s death after a string of failures to meet court deadlines saw the conservator of Brown’s estate win by default.
He was ordered to pay $36million in damages.
No criminal charges were filed against him.
Gordon died from a suspected overdose on December 31, 2019.
