EastEnders is yet to confirm whether Ben and Callum will reunite.
However, BBC drama boss Kate Oates and Max Bowden – who plays Ben – have both hinted that this isn’t the end of the road for Ballum.
“We’ll be testing Tiff and Keegan’s relationship. We’ve got a big story for them coming up so that’s exciting too,” Kate told Digital Spy.
“The next chapter of the Ballum story as well, so I think we’re really rich in story at the moment, we’re really excited. We’ve had some great meetings, and people are coming away buzzing about what’s to come,” she added.
Spoilers have revealed that Ben will tell his family he has arranged a date in an upcoming episode in the new year.
Phil will be surprised to hear that Ben and Callum have broken up.
Will Ben really be able to move on so soon?
Asked whether Ben would get back together with Callum, Max told Digital Spy: “I hope so. As I said, the most fundamental thing in Ben’s life is to get to that level playing field with Phil. Ben can’t go straight, it’s in his nature – as much as he may try, it’s embedded.
“It’s about acceptance of who he is. I’d like to see them get back together – we’ll have to wait to see.”
Max added: “With any of the Mitchells… once they’re crossed, they have the willpower to do anything out of impulse.
“Ben imitates parts of his father – and a lot of the family can just fly off the handle.”
Kate added: “It’s also whether Callum will give up – Ben’s not the only player in this.
“There’s a lot to look for. Phil is really hurt by this betrayal – it’s really hard to forget he’s more than just hard man Phil Mitchell, but he has heart. And in the run-up, he is really flying off the handle.”

Ben and Callum have had a rocky relationship ever since the undertaker developed feelings for the Mitchell while he was still engaged to Whitney Dean.
The couple hit another obstacle more recently when Callum announced his plans to join the police.
Ben was unsure about how Callum’s career ambitions would affect his criminal lifestyle but promised to put his dodgy dealings behind him.
But Callum realised that Ben was still up to no good when he returned home with blood on his shirt after helping his dad get revenge on Jack Branning.
Callum confronted Ben in emotional scenes and told him he is in love with him.
But Ben just shook his head before storming out.
He then told Callum he had to let him go to protect him.
He said: “I am not going to ruin you and I am not going to watch you get ruined, I don’t love you.
“And I don’t want your love.”

EastEnders fans have flocked to Twitter to express their delight at the thought of Ballum getting back together.
One fan tweeted: “So the reunion is mid – January late January At least we’re all hoping for right.”
Another said: “Hope so. I really want them back together. I knew Ben didn’t want to date someone else. He was just trying to protect Callum. He’s so precious to him.”
A third tweeted: “When Ben finally admits his love for Callum and tells him it will legit end me. They just need to get back together like now.”
EastEnders is yet to confirm any details surrounding their reunion.
But that hasn’t stopped fans making predictions on Twitter and viewers are convinced that Phil will be the catalyst.
One fan tweeted: “I actually think Phil will be the reason #Ballum get back together. Phil will finally say Ben ignore my stuff and get your act together…Callum is your guy…he’s good for you…go for it!”
Another tweeted: “Imagine Phil is the one to get Ben and Callum back together. PHIL. what a turn of events I’d be so happy I really would.”
A third said: “It would be nice if Phil is the one to make Ben see sense and go and get Callum back as a lot of what Ben was trying to protect Callum from was to do with Phil and his revenge so it would be good if Phil let Ben go and let him get on with his own life now.”
