DANIEL CORMIER has confirmed he held talks with the WWE to make the move after his UFC career is over.
The former UFC heavyweight champion saw his close pal and training partner Cain Velasquez sign for Vince McMahon’s pro wrestling stable this year.
Cormier had been lined up for a trial as a commentator, but could not find the time to follow through with it.
And in an interview with BT Sports, the avid pro wrestling fan and current UFC commentator revealed he was set to help promote Velaquez’s WWE debut against Brock Lesnar.
Cormier said: “I’ve talked with the WWE on a number of occasions, they want to work together.
“I almost came to the press conference for Brock vs Cain to play the role of a fight builder. Unfortunately, my schedule didn’t work.”
Cormier was offered a role on the WWE’s new programme called Backstage, that debuted on Fox Sports 1 – the former broadcasters of the UFC.
But after the WWE made the switch to ESPN, DC saw his proposed WWE venture dashed.
“I got an offer to work that new show, WWE Backstage.
“Obviously, it didn’t work with the new relationship with [UFC and] ESPN.
“But we are constantly trying to get me involved in the product.
“As a big-time fan of the WWE, nothing makes me happier. I’ve got some great opportunities, man. I’m lucky.
“I’ve got some things outside of the octagon that’s gonna carry me for a long time.”
