A WORLD War Two bomb has been unearthed yards from London’s Olympic Stadium.
It was discovered next to West Ham’s home ground during work on an apartment development — and means a Premier League game against Arsenal might be postponed.
Specialist police officers were called to the scene just before midday yesterday and a 150m cordon was put in place.
A source said: “We think it is an unexploded bomb.
“It’s crazy to think of all the people walking around here during the Olympics and we had no idea it was here.”
Experts have ruled the area safe for now but that could change after a specialist mining team attends the site on November 25.
The source added: “The bomb is in a tricky position, so could take up to two weeks to sort it out, which takes us into the second week of December.
“Between now and 25 November teams will be putting together a plan of what to do.”
The timetable means a match against Spurs on November 23 will go ahead but there are doubts over the Arsenal game on December 9.
An Olympic Park spokesman confirmed there was “an unexplained metal object found during site works in the south of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park”.
He added: “Following further investigations, the police are satisfied that the cordon can be lifted and the site has now been handed back to the construction company.
“We will continue our efforts to safely establish what the object is but the park and its venues will continue to remain open.”
