A MUM who spent £4.50 on a roast-in-the-bag chicken was left disappointed when she opened it and found it was barely six inches long.
Marissa Farrar, from Exeter in Devon, proved her point by snapping a photo of the chicken alongside a standard table fork.
Marissa, who writes romance and fantasy novels, even pictured the fork with a tape measure to show how measly her chicken was.
She wrote: “Look at the size of this Sainsbury’s roast in the bag chicken!
“I’ve put a fork next to it to show how tiny it is. My cats have brought home bigger birds!”
The mum-of-three said the packaging on the 1.4kg Roast in the Bag Garlic & Parsley Basted Whole British Chicken meant she could only see its size when she took it out of the oven.
She later added: “I didn’t notice that it looked especially small, but it was a cook in the bag one, so you couldn’t really see.
“I think it was supposed to be 1.4kg, which I suspect was mostly water! I would say it was probably six inches in length.
“My reaction was disbelief, together with dismay at how I was going to feed my family of five with it!
“Luckily my husband has a habit of peeling too many potatoes, so we all filled up on them.
“The experience has put me off, I definitely won’t be buying it again.”
A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “We offer our customers a range of chickens at different sizes and weights.
“All our packaging for chickens is clearly labelled with their weight.”
