A MOTHER locked herself and her son inside her home which she “deliberately” set on fire in a horrific murder-suicide, police said.
The bodies of Renai Palmer, 47, and six-year-old Gavin Palmer Murray were found inside the home in a western suburb of Las Vegas on October 8.
However, forensics cops have now determined that the deadly blaze was intentionally set with gasoline, Fox 5 reports.
The fire spread quickly after police responded at around 8.20am local time, local media reported.
Officials said the mother and child died at an area hospital that day.
Sean Murray, the boy’s father, said he was suspicious that Renai was responsible for starting the fire.
He said that the room where the blaze started was locked.
Sean told NBC: “It’s just hard to believe that they could get trapped in a room.”
And it turns out, his suspicions were right.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has declared the deaths a murder-suicide.
Sean added: “At first, they told me there was a gas can found in the house and later I learned the gas can was found in the room.
“They told me gas was deliberately spread in the room and on my son as well.”
The distraught dad said that while Renai was “a bit depressed” at the time of the fire, he “never thought she was even capable of doing something like this.”
Gavin’s uncle was rushed to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation but was later released, officials said.
