DEAR DEIDRE: MY darling wife has been paralysed down one side since having a stroke a year ago. I have mobility problems myself but managed to look after her.
I organised that we would move into a housing-association bungalow together. We have both turned 80 now.
After I was taken to hospital with heart problems I haven’t been able to care for my wife so she’s had to go into a care home[/caption]
She had to go into respite care while I organised the move but I was then taken into hospital with heart problems and I’m still there now.
I always promised I’d never let her go into a care home, but it’s now out of my hands.
They say she’ll stay in the home for the rest of her life and I will move into the bungalow alone. It breaks my heart.
DEIDRE SAYS: I am so sorry but it sounds as if your wife now needs the nursing care the home can provide.
But you deserve the help you need to visit your wife every day.
