DEAR DEIDRE: I HAVE no one to turn to. My mum is an alcoholic and Dad shouts at me to shut up if I try talking to him. My only mate has a new girlfriend and no longer has time for me.
I am a guy aged 22. I have suffered from depression for a long time. I feel no one cares about me. I can’t make new friends as everyone round here is on drugs or in trouble with the law. That is not me at all. If I ended it all, nobody would miss me.
DEIDRE SAYS: I am sorry you feel so low, but help is out there and you don’t have to keep feeling so alone.
I assume you have seen your GP but I know mental health services are over-stretched.
Contact CALM – the Campaign Against Living Miserably – which helps young men (thecalmzone.net, 0800 58 58 58).
Contact other children of alcoholics, who will know how you feel, through Al-Anon (al-anonuk.org.uk, 0800 0086 811).
