HUGO LLORIS is hopeful he will not require surgery on his dislocated elbow.
Tottenham’s keeper and captain suffered the sickening injury in the opening minutes of his team’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Saturday.
The Frenchman fell awkwardly after he spilled Pascal Gross’ cross to gift Neal Maupay a third-minute opener for the Seagulls.
Medics spent five minutes treating Lloris in the goalmouth before carrying him off on a stretcher.
He was said to be screaming in agony as he was put in an ambulance and taken to hospital.
He was discharged later and his wife posted a photo online of him recovering at home.
The injury looked so bad it was widely thought he would need surgery to mend his elbow properly.
But it seems that may not now be the case after doctors reset it on the day.
A source close to the player said: “There is no surgery planned at the moment and Hugo is hoping he will not need it.
“Of course, that could all change if it doesn’t heal properly. But the early signs are looking good.”
Tottenham have still not pencilled in a date for Lloris’ return to action but it is unlikely he will play again before Christmas.
It is another blow for the North Londoners after their poor start to the season.
Their emphatic loss at the struggling Seagulls followed last week’s 7-2 hammering at home by Bayern Munich and their Carabao Cup KO at League Two Colchester.
This has resulted in some of their own fans turning on them and calling for manager Mauricio Pochettino to quit.
Defender Serge Aurier hit back at Spurs critics and called for fans to get behind them.
In a post on Instagram he said: “There are times when nothing smiles on you.
“Hiding and crying is not the best solution is like his life! “The only thing to do is to work twice as much as you did to get results!
“So we are going to fight together as one man! We will get back to the top but only with the help of all our real fans who believe in us very soon.”
