The Chelsea boss believes much more is to come even after his young side thrashed Southampton.
Tammy Abraham, 22, and Mason Mount, 20, scored the first two goals as Chelsea went fifth, two points behind Manchester City in second.
And Lampard said: “Liverpool are out on their own but we are in a nice position.
“It should give us determination to go away and come back in the same vein.
“The reason we are playing well is our hard work and how together we are.
“If we can keep going then we will be challenging right up there I hope.”
But Lampard admits his defence needs to sharpen up.
Danny Ings pulled one back for Saints before N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi strikes sealed it.
Lamps said: “We let someone stroll into our box and score.
“We switched off at a throw-in — we’re nowhere near the finished article.”
Southampton are still looking for a first home win this season.
Fuming boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “At the moment we are not quick enough — we are not disciplined enough.
“This game was a little bit too easy for the opponent.”
