BOLTON WANDERERS will be charged with two cases of failing to fulfil a fixture by the Football League and face a possible 12-point penalty.
The League One strugglers, already on minus nine at the foot of the table, should know their fate within a month.
The EFL discussed the case today and a commission will look into the two cancellations with a hearing and decision due shortly.
Insiders reveal that the maximum six-point penalties will be dished out in each case, but that Bolton have scope to appeal and may have one cut in half.
Bolton failed to play Brentford in the final game of last season following a player strike and the club being unable to arrange the fixture despite an offer of an extension of the campaign.
As revealed by SunSport in May, EFL bosses were angered by the Trotters and point deductions were set to be enforced for misconduct.
Then the troubled outfit’s administrators called off a home game with Doncaster Rovers in August because of concerns about the welfare of their young team.
The Bees were given a win by the EFL while Bolton remain unpunished for five months in that case.
Doncaster and the EFL were also fuming about the second call-off. That game will eventually be played so Rovers will not get any free points.
However, Wanderers are also subject to punishment for the way they handled the decision without consent from the League.
Bolton have been selling season tickets since their takeover was complete while rival clubs fume about the delay in making a decision on their punishments.
