BILLY GILMOUR enjoyed a first Chelsea start to remember against Grimsby and some positive words from Cesc Fabregas topped it off.
The young Scot is just one of the young players being brought through at Stamford Bridge this year and Wednesday counted as his full debut.
Having seen Gilmour play the full 90 minutes of the 7-1 rout over Grimsby, Fabregas offered his advice to the midfielder.
He tweeted: “[Gilmour] played amazing tonight.
“Personality is the most important at this age and he’s got it all right.
“Now time to keep learning and taking advantage of these games to prove the coach he’s good enough.”
It was his second appearance for Chelsea after a short substitute outing against Sheffield United in the Premier League.
Gilmour replied with a humble “Thank you” to Fabregas, who had retweeted a quote discussing how the youngster has studied him.
The comment he retweeted read: “The training starts at 9 every morning but I get to the training ground at 8. I spend one hour watching videos of Fabregas, how he moves without the ball, how he pass the ball, how he picks his teammates. He’s my favourite.”
Those who know Gilmour best believe he was raised for success.
Sun Sport recently caught up with his former headteacher and coaches in Scotland, discovering how highly rated he was from a very young age.
Jim Hughes, the headteacher at Stanley Primary School, said: “He was a model pupil.
“It was clear he came from a good family background because he had good manners, he was respectful.”
