STRANGER Things’ Jim Hopper could be set for a TV comeback after author Adam Christopher teased an adaptation of his prequel novel.
The hit Netflix series left fans devastated at the end of season three, after Jim sacrificed himself in an explosion to save the town of Hawkins from the Upside Down.
But Adam’s prequel book – Darkness on the Edge of Town – explores Jim’s history, and could be a way for the beloved character to return to our TV screens.
Set in 1977, the book focuses on Jim’s life as a police detective in New York City after he returns from the Vietnam War.
The synopsis reads: “Hopper is starting over after returning home from Vietnam.
“A young daughter, a caring wife, and a new beat as an NYPD detective make it easy to slip back into life as a civilian.
“But after shadowy federal agents suddenly show and seize the files about a series of brutal, unsolved murders, Hopper takes matters into his own hands, risking everything to discover the truth.”
While it hasn’t been confirmed whether the prequel will spawn a TV show or standalone series, Adam has revealed he wrote the book in such a way that it would be easy to adapt for the small screen.
He told Metro Online: “The book begins in New York and includes the blackout. When I was writing it, I did have in mind the episodic structure.”
“So you can imagine if they did the eight episodes like in Stranger Things, the blackout would be the key moment of episode seven and eight.
“That pacing and structure of the story would lend itself to an adaptation.”
Jim – played by David Harbour in the Netflix series – was attempting to shut the opening to the Upside Down in the Russian’s laboratory under the Starcourt Mall when he became trapped.
When Joyce Byers – played by Winona Ryder – revealed she needed to destroy the lab, Jim told her to trigger the explosion to save the town.
The action then jumped ahead by three months and saw the characters coming to terms with Jim’s death, however, fans are still hopeful he miraculously survived after the Russians referred to an “American” in a post credits scene.
Other fans have speculated Jim ended up in the Upside Down, which could pave the way for a comeback in the future.
