AN amber alert was issued last night for a three-month-old baby who is thought to have been abducted by her biological parents.
Khaliyah Alvarez Caro was reportedly taken from her grandparents’ home in South Salt Lake, Utah at around 8pm yesterday.
Police have identified the toddler’s parents as Gabriel Brandon Caro, 19, and Jasmine Angelica Alvarez, 21.
Both have a history of drug abuse, domestic violence and are homeless, according to the cops.
The baby was under the guardianship of her grandparents.
South Salt Lake Police Executive Officer Gary Keller said the couple went into the grandparent’s apartment through a basement window and “grabbed” the toddler.
Only the granddad was home at the time and the pair are said to have driven away in a grey four-door car which could have been a Toyota or a Chevy Malibu.
Keller said: “They came into the apartment through a basement window and went upstairs, grabbed the baby.
“Only the grandfather was home. There was an argument that took place. They left the apartment with the three-month-old baby.”
Keller added the police had received reports that the parents were high earlier in the day.
Alvarez has a protective order against Caro and both are considered unfit to care for the child, he added.
He said a “hectic investigation” was underway but added the police did not know where they were headed.
Khaliyah has black hair and brown eyes and was said to be wearing a Mickey Mouse t-shirt and a nappy when she went missing.
