CHELSEA fans are declaring the end of Cesar Azpilicueta’s time at the club after Reece James’ stunning debut.
The right-back started in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby and topped a fine performance with a 25-yard finish to make it 5-1.
He also bagged two assists as the Blues smashed their League Two opponents 7-1 at Stamford Bridge.
It led to high praise on Twitter, with many Blues fans now wanting the 19-year-old to be a fixture in Frank Lampard’s starting XI.
That would mean captain and current first choice right-back Azpilicueta is dropped.
But many fans have questioned his performances this season anyway and are ready to embrace the change.
One Chelsea fan wrote how it is “over”, while Oliver Speakman tweeted “It’s Reece James’ world and we’re all living in it”.
Peter Ezenwa wrote: “Azpi we love you, you have being loyal to Chelsea for years but sorry Reece James is unreal and he is back!”
And another Blues supporter wrote: “Azpi checking his Apple Watch knowing the clock is ticking since Reece James is breathing down his neck!”
Lampard got his first home win in style with Chelsea’s biggest in more than six years.
A squad including ten academy graduates saw off League Two opposition to finally give the fans at Stamford Bridge a victory to cheer.
As well as James netting, Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi (two), Pedro, Kurt Zouma and returning Callum Hudson-Odoi all scored in the thrashing.
