CELTIC are lining up a deal to land Birmingham youngster Mitchell Roberts ahead of Manchester City.
The Scottish champions’ transfer window remains open, which gives them the edge in the race for the 18-year-old defender.
Both clubs are tracking Roberts after catching the eye in the Development Squad at St Andrew’s.
He caught the eye for Manchester City in the summer when Birmingham Under-23s played in a friendly at the Etihad Campus.
But Celtic are also firmly in the running for the centre-back and believe they can land him while the Premier League window is closed.
The teenager signed a one-year pro deal in the summer and is expected to sold for the right price.
Roberts has been with Birmingham since 2011 after playing Sunday league football and getting scouted by Blues.
And he cites City centre-back John Stones as his hero after the England star’s emergence in his position.
Roberts battled back from a knee injury during his first year as a scholar but impressed after completing his rehab and stepping up for the Under-18s and Under-23s.
