Bury are facing oblivion because of a massive problem with a £2.5million debt on their ground.
The Shakers failed to find an agreement with bidders Harry Newman and Rory Campbell because of major snags about hidden costs found in due diligence.
The pair were hopeful of a deal last week when the EFL granted them an extension to complete by a 5pm deadline but then they hit trouble.
Previous owner Stuart Day had done a deal with a firm for a seven figure sum in exchange for a rental of car parking spaces and land around Gigg Lane.
This bill would have been inherited by Newman and Campbell and they are not willing to take it on.
The Sporting Risk duo thought they could make their plan of taking on the existing CVA put together by owner Steve Dale and finding players to sign and trade would work.
But after further checks revealed the extra deal they pulled back from completion.
Following the news, the EFL released the following statement: “The EFL Board has been informed that C&N Sporting Risk will no longer be pursuing their interest in Bury FC.
“The League announced at the weekend that it was working exclusively with the Club and C&N in an attempt to finalise a change of control at the Club.
“However, following a period of due diligence, C&N have opted not to progress matters.
“The League continues to be in discussions with Bury FC in advance of today’s 5pm deadline and will provide a further update as appropriate.”
And amid the chaos, Bury released a statement urging fans to stay out of the stadium unless authorised.
It read: “Bury Football Club would like to issue the following statement to supporters.
“We understand that this is a difficult and emotional time for all supporters given the recent news regarding a potential takeover.
“While the club are working hard looking at other potential avenues with other interested parties, we would like to remind supporters that no one should gain access to inside the stadium (unless authorised).
“We would like to urge supporters to remain patient and respectful for club property.”
BURY have until 11.59pm tonight to save themselves from expulsion from the EFL.
If the Shakers are thrown out, it would leave League One down to 23 teams and affect promotion and relegations in two division.
