BRIGHTON’S Florin Andone was sent off for a horrific challenge that Paul Merson said warranted five red cards.
The Seagulls forward committed the leg snapper on Southampton defender Yan Valery during the Premier League clash at Brighton’s AMEX stadium.
Andone, 26, made the horror tackle on the half-hour mark with his team drawing 0-0 with their south coast neighbours.
Somehow Valery escaped unhurt but it was not pretty.
Both players hurtled towards a loose ball in committed fashion.
But Andone clearly had a rush of blood as both feet left the ground, he turned in midair his locked leg slammed straight into Valery’s leg at shin level, studs first.
And Merson was disgusted by what he saw.
Clearly distressed by the images he was seeing, the former Arsenal man said: “Ah that should have been five red cards.
“That’s one of the worst tackles you will ever see.”
Lewis Dunk had a goal ruled out by VAR soon after because Dan Burn was found to be in an offside position.
