LIVERPOOL look set to miss out on a staggering £23million following Philippe Coutinho’s loan switch to Bayern Munich from Barcelona.
The Brazilian star has linked up with the Bundesliga side on an initial loan deal, with the Bavarian side having the option to turn his stay into a permanent move.
Coutinho swapped Anfield for the Nou Camp in January 2018, with the Blaugrana forking out £105million up front for the 27-year-old.
Instalments meant that the Reds would be able to pocket a further £37million if clauses in Coutinho’s contract were met.
Barca have so far paid an extra £14m after the ex-Inter Milan midfielder met an appearance bonus.
But according to Spanish news outlet Sport, Liverpool were owed an additions £18m once Coutinho played 100 times for the La Liga side.
And they were owed a further £5m if the 2019 Copa America winner won the Champions League with Barca.
Liverpool could still be paid the £23m if he returns to Barcelona following his loan spell at Bayern, but it appears unlikely he has any future with the club at this present time.
Coutinho spoke of his delight at sealing his move to the German outfit – who paid £7.7m to bring him to the Allianz Arena.
Speaking of the transfer, the new Bayern No10 said: “For me, this change represents a new challenge in a new country at one of the best clubs in Europe.
“I am really looking forward to this. I have big goals like Bayern, and I’m sure I can do it with my new team-mates.”
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added: “We have been working with Philippe Coutinho for some time and are very happy that we were able to realise this transfer now. Our thanks to FC Barcelona for agreeing to this transfer.
“In Philippe, a player comes to FC Bayern, who will strengthen our offensive with his creativity and excellent technique.”
