A BRIT tourist is fighting for his life after plunging 12 feet when a balcony collapsed during a “passionate sex session” in broad daylight in the South of France.
Horrified onlookers watched as the 30-year-old man plummeted to the ground during the mid-day romp in the Riviera seaside resort of Le Cannet, north of Cannes.
His lover, who is 28 and Canadian, suffered minor injuries and is now talking to detectives who have opened a criminal enquiry.
“There was a balcony collapse during the love making,” said an investigating source.
“Large fragments of the stone balcony surrounded the couple after the fall.
“The couple were making love in open view, and then the balcony gave way, meaning they dropped around 3.5 meters (11.48 feet).”
The source added it is thought that the woman may have been cushioned by her lover following the fall in Le Cannet, which is extremely popular with British tourists during the summer months.
The British man was rushed to an intensive care unit at the Pasteur Hospital in Nice ans is now in a “critical condition.”.
His partner was “hurt but stable”.
The source added: “It happened at around 12.30pm on Saturday when the couple were seen making love on the balcony of their holiday rental flat.
“They were becoming very passionate indeed, and suddenly toppled from the first floor of the villa into the street below.
“Neighbours called the emergency services immediately.”
Locals meanwhile told of “pool parties” and “lots of fun and laughter” before the tragedy in the holiday rental.
“They were having a great time, all day and all night,” said one.
“This was absolutely fine because they were enjoying themselves on holiday, but nobody expected anything like this.”
Prosecutors have opened an investigation to try and work out whether alcohol or drugs may have been involved in the accident, and now the enquiry has switched to the building itself being unsafe.
Under strict French legislation governing holiday rentals, the owners could face prosecution over the fall.
